WHAT ARE HOT TUB INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS?

Getting a hot tub installed in the backyard is a much simpler process than you might imagine. Basically, you need to make sure that you have access to the backyard; a solid, level place to set the spa; and electricity, and a garden hose in close proximity. Read on for more details about each of these logistical hot tub installation requirements.

IS YOUR PORTABLE SPA INSTALLATION LOCATION ACCESSIBLE?

In most cases getting the hot tub into the backyard is fairly simple and straightforward. A delivery crew will bring the hot tub to your home and then place the hot tub on its side on a hot tub cart. Then they roll the cart into your backyard and to the spot you would like the hot tub placed.. This means that they need an access point into your backyard that is at least as wide as your hot tub is tall. In some cases, when there is no entryway into the backyard that is wide enough, your dealer can arrange for a crane delivery, where the hot tub is lifted over the house and then lowered into the backyard using a crane. We provide specific delivery and installation planning to help with this.

INSTALL YOUR HOT TUB ON A SOLID SURFACE

A level concrete pad or a reinforced deck are the most common surfaces hot tubs are installed on. However, depending on the spa model you use, you may not need to pour concrete. A level pad built of stone pavers, a composite slab made of wood and gravel, or a modular spa pad made of heavy duty plastic may also be good options. Talk to your relaxation specialist about the specific foundation requirements for your spa model.

WHAT ARE THE ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR HOT TUB INSTALLATION?

Hot tubs either require 110V or 220V of electricity. If you choose a 110V model— often referred to as “plug-and-play”—then you may be able to simply plug the spa into an electrical outlet in the backyard. If you choose a 220V model, then you will need to work with a certified electrician to ensure you have enough electricity to power the spa, and then the electrician will be required to run the appropriate wires from your electrical panel to the hot tub. Your dealer can help you understand the pros and cons of the two electrical configurations and can explain the specific electrical requirements for the model you choose.

HOT TUB WATER CARE – HOW TO FILL AND DRAIN YOUR HOT TUB

Some people think that hot tubs require plumbing—but that is not the case! A hot tub, or portable spa, is a completely self-contained vessel designed to provide you with amazing hydrotherapy benefits. Once installed, you simply fill your spa with a garden hose. The water circulates through the plumbing and filtration system within the spa’s cabinet. Depending on how often you use your spa and the water care system you choose, you will need to drain the spa and refill it just a few times each year. Your local hot tub dealer should have a lot of experience in delivering hot tubs and probably has navigated many complicated installations. This is one of the reasons we recommend purchasing a hot tub from a local dealer who can help you through the delivery and installation process.
